How To Get A Smoke Alarm To Stop Chirping

If your smoke alarm is battery-powered, you should start by simply replacing the battery. That will usually fix the issue. However, if your smoke alarms are connected to your electrical system as well, you can follow these steps:

  • Turn off the alarm at the breaker
  • Remove the alarm from its mounting and disconnect the power
  • Remove the battery
  • Press and hold the test button for at least 15 seconds
  • Reconnect the power and battery, and remount the alarm
  • Turn on the alarm at the breaker

If that still does not work, it may be time to contact our team to perform a repair.

Why A Smoke Detector Keeps Beeping After Changing The Battery

If your smoke alarm keeps beeping after you’ve changed the battery, it is likely because it is reaching the end of its life and will need to be replaced. Smoke detectors are only effective for so many years, and after that, they can start to lose their effectiveness, so they warn you that it is time for a change!

How To Get A Smoke Alarm To Stop Chirping Without A Battery

Some smoke alarms are connected to your home’s electrical wiring, but have a battery for backup. If you take out the battery and the alarm keeps chirping, you should begin by replacing the battery. You can also use a compressed air blower to blow inside the alarm’s vents in case some debris has become lodged in there.

Why Is My Smoke Alarm Beeping Every 30 Seconds?

When your smoke alarm beeps every 30 seconds, that is usually a simple sign that your batteries need to be replaced. However, if they keep beeping, you may need to replace the unit as we mentioned before.

No matter what the case is, you can always count on Electrical Connections to provide you with high-quality smoke detector repair and replacement. Contact us now to schedule an appointment!

Super easy to schedule and work with. We got recessed lights put into two rooms, and our electrician James was informative and helpful, being detailed and upfront throughout the job. He continued to be helpful through any questions we had. Definitely recommend!

Franklin was wonderful. He was so thorough and clearly walked us through the work and the issues he uncovered (including some possible fire hazards that we are SO thankful he resolved). He was also just very friendly and nice to have around! Whenever we need an electrician again, we will be happy to have him back.

Peter Aurgaur and Jeremiah Castillo did a great job today replacing/upgrading my breaker panel. They worked very well together to efficiently perform all aspects of the job. I look forward to getting a successful inspection and then closing outage work when Pepco arrives to work with Peter to up date my meter and housing.
